I think what Judas said was quite clear.

wich is why i deleted my rebuttal i was 1/2 asleep last nite when i did that. still think the analogy is silly.
i also think 4 gig of mem is a waste in xp 32. & vista to a slightly lesser extent . instead of buying 4 gigs of generic ram i think you would be better served with 2gig of high quality low lat ram. jmo. part of it also depends on what u r doing with your comp of course, but most peeps just dont need more than 2gigs. the only reason i will be buying 4gigs ram(hopefully 8) when i upgrade is because i will be going 64 bit at some point.

actually i recommend anyone with windows 32bit (xp or vista) to stick with 2gb as i've seen some machines come to a screaming halt with anything more... issues rise out of thin air in some cases.... plus what's the point if you can't make use out of most of it anyways as it simply disappears.... specially if your running any kind of decent video cards with large amount of onboard memory or any other devices that has memory (the more components with memory on them, the less physical memory you can address in 32bit)
I can easily get my hands on 4gb of absalutely horrible memory for under $90 bucks DDR2...... horrible speed... latencies.... But PC6400 or PC8000+ DDR2 in 4gb kits aren't that expensive at all. i can buy 4 4gb kits that are actually good for the same price as a single DDR3 4gb kit....
