How Low Will Windows Vista Prices Go?

Microsoft announced it was lowering Windows Vista prices last Thursday. While the price cuts aren't scheduled to go into effect until the release of Service Pack 1 (SP1), Microsoft had said that many retailers would be offering promotions that would drop Vista to its new lower prices.

As of this writing Amazon.com has Windows Vista Home Premium (Upgrade) on its site, either a pre-order for SP1, or the current retail version, for $94.99 (above, click to enlarge). Also, OfficeMax, in both its Sunday print ads and online, is advertising Windows Vista Home Premium (Upgrade) for $99.99.

You can still use the feature of installing the upgrade over itself, right?

I'm actually surprised they dropped the price at all, and will be further surprised if they do so any more.

XP Pro is still typically $100USD, how many years later? Microsoft has the non-Linux market by the little hairy ones they don't have to drop prices.

If the prices bother you I have a new never used, COA included original, best of all time, mint condition, original unopened package, unscratched, manual included Windows 98. Letcha have it for a third of the cost of Vista.

windows 98 won't work on pretty much 80-100% of the hardware made and sold in the last 2 years...
