I'm not a fan of dynamic contract.... at all..
i find i usually disable it as it has a tendancy to over power at times and underpower at times (even lag) depending on how good the monitor is.. I've been using my NEW BenQ G2400W i just got for a few days now, i've used it for text/games/movies and a few other dodads. IMO, blacks are definitely not "black"..... while the screen does very well at being uniform in being consistant across the screen .... backlight bleedthrough it very very apparent. Watching movies on it has been steller, the quality of the screen is excellent, I would say it surpasses the samsung 245 monitor by leaps and bounds.. @ $347 bucks (CAD) (my cost + taxes)... it is worth every penny. BTW, the HDMI+VGA+DVI work very well, VGA isn't amazing, but it's damn good, and HDMI actually seems to work very well..... but i'm going to have to do more testing on that yet.

Thanks for your reply, Swimtech. I'm starting to appreciate how much displays with the same model numbers can differ, and how different eyes might see different things. I'm also stating to wonder if text work on my current Samsung 214T isn't so bad... Here's a recent posting on HardForum about the same BenQ display that this thread is about:
"I have another two weeks to evaluate, but I'lll probably return it (amazon). It sits next to my dell 2007wfp and there is no comparison. the g2400 has significant backlight bleed. In addition it is still way too bright, but when I dial down the settings (brightness & contrast - 15 & 60 respectively), the clarity suffers significantly and the colors are very washed out. I also can't adjust the color on this monitor (grayed out item in OSD). The only way I could justify keeping it is if I were to restrict its use to just applications that have very dark backgrounds with light colored text - keep in mind that I'm using this monitor for 2d only and mostly text based apps. I'm sure this monitor is great for gaming." I think those of us who have to work with black text on white backgrounds are at a loss, given how the extra brightness of today's displays is a headache in the making for us. Turning down the brightness can cause as many problems as it fixes, including extra flicker. |

i find no issues reading the text... (DVI connection)
actually web pages and everything come up very very clearly for me.... well balanced... while it is indeed on the brighter side of things, it's only a tad.. back light bleed is obvious, but for the price, it's excellent

I didn't pay much attention to this thread, but my friend bought this screen today going on Zardons recommendation and im quite amazed how good the picture is for the price.
No dead pixels, good quality for text and its excellent for gaming, as good as my dell 24 inch. Great value indeed. Also quite surprised to see it has 1 : 1 mapping for playstation 3 HDMI in, so it doesnt distort like most monitors would. |

Oh, needed to mention I never did hear back from BenQ via email, but was able to visit their booth at the Infocomm 2008 conference recently. They had their new V2400 on display and it looked very nice.
I asked them about their use of first quality AU Optoelectronics panels and they confirmed they were still using those...

well i'm hopeing to get my hands on a Component to VGA adapter here ASAP and hook up a Wii to the damn screen...
also a xbox360 with HDMI to see how that goes as well i'm using the screen, and i've got alot of interest in it due to it's inputs.. but if the screen was designed with component input as well as standard video input... for an extra 50-100 bucks, people would definitely consider this screen for a tv.
