ATP Electronics might not be a company you are familiar with, but they have been manufacturing flash memory devices since 1991; years before the digital camera became a common household item. Their lineup includes many popular formats of flash memory cards, as well as a few models of USB flash drives, like the ToughDrive and Petito that were recently reviewed at Bigbruin.com.

The Ultra Direct Memory Access (UDMA) interface has recently been implemented in digital SLR and other high end cameras, which allows for write speeds of up to 45 MB/second. With the right equipment, photographers can now shoot more high resolution pictures in less time, since they won't have to wait for the camera to write one picture before taking the next.
