US man gets $2.6m for domain name

A US man has sold the domain name pizza.com for $2.6m (£1.3m) - after maintaining the site for just $20 a year since 1994. Chris Clark, 43, accepted the offer from an anonymous bidder after a week-long online auction.

"It's crazy, it's just crazy," Mr Clark, who lives in North Potomac, Maryland, was quoted as saying by the Baltimore Sun newspaper. "It will make a significant difference in my life, for sure," he added.

I still think that if he had publicized it a bit more, or went to some of the bigger pizza chains that he would have gotten a lot more bids for it, or even a very large offer from one of the chain guys.

Still, $3360 investment paying out $2,600,000 in the end.... I could handle that.

Lucky sod, yeah, should have touted it to the major chains though.

Is that the last good .COM to be on the market, I wonder. Are there any good domains left?

Unlike cybersquatting, nobody has any specific claim on "pizza". Generic named .coms was probably a good field to invest in.
