IBM's racetrack memory seeks 100x boost in density

Don't make computers seek out data. Make the data move to where it can be used.

That, roughly, is one way to describe the racetrack memory concept, which IBM argues could one day lead to memory that could hold 100 times more data than flash memory does today and cost 100 times less. So that 2GB card you bought for $20 this week would hold 200GB, or more than a lot of notebook hard drives, and cost 20 cents.

oh gaud....

they've done it..

they've likely beat out holographic media...

And greated a media that UHD formats could be stored on (several TBs of space required)

What is its life? Is it going to out last hard drives or optical discs?

that's what they stated .... that due to no moving parts.. it should considerably outlive any of them

flash memory has no moving parts too, right? But as far as I know it has a limited life span.

Anyway, I hope it works.

this uses electricity rather than magnetism as used in some flash media to write, it also said it wont be limiited by its read/write amounts

probably means alot of read/right functions
