Windows XP SP3 Corrupting Registry Entries?
As if Microsoft needed to hear more Windows XP SP3 problems, right? You'd almost think they did this on purpose, as we know they'd rather all of us upgrade to Vista. Nah.

Hold on. It's not SP3 that is corrupting the registry then. It's the idiots who left their anti-virus, and/or system security software installed while they installed a core operating system altering upgrade. Stupid idiots. Of course it was going to F#$@ up.
You never, ever leave an anti-virus software or any Internet security packages installed, especially one that protects the OS kernel from attack, or any registry watchdog software installed when you do a major upgrade of this type. You're just asking for trouble if you do. Stupid dumb a$$e$. While I have to admit that SP3 has had a rough start you cannot blame MS for this one. This is plain old stupid user error.

Just install SP3 while booted in F8/Safe Mode. No need to uninstall anti-virus/anti-malware.
That's assuming you're installing with the "already downloaded" SP3 (316 Mb "full version"). |

Thing is that every time there has been a service pack released by Microsoft there is usually case after case of failed installs due to anti-virus, or internet security software. Either the computer never boots up again, error after error upon rebooting Windows, corrupt registry, non-working devices (usually network related). Symantec products, btw, are well known not to work properly after a service pack install. |
