Lite-On IT has revealed plans to step into the production of power-saving compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) tubes at its factory in Zhengjiang, eastern China, and said it has already obtained OEM orders from Royal Philips Electronics.
Lite-On IT is establishing four production lines for an initial monthly capacity of two million CFL tubes at the factory, with volume production to kick off in September 2008, the company indicated. Largely due to hiking oil prices, expectations for a fast growth in demand are and so Lite-On IT plans to set up 11 additional production lines to reach a total monthly capacity of 7.5 million CFL tubes in 2009. Thereafter the company said it plans to keep expanding capacity adding 15 more lines per year over the next few years.
