Are NVIDIA PhysX Drivers Cheating on 3DMark Vantage?
"When Futuremark Vantage was designed the AGEIA PhysX SDK was used and a discrete Physical Processing Unit was needed to offload the benchmark DLLs from the CPU to the PPU. We showed this in our article about 3DMark Vantage the day the benchmark came out. We dedicated an entire page to offloading PhysX to a PPU and no one cried that it was cheating moving the DLLs from the CPU to the PPU. Now that NVIDIA had moved the workloads from the CPU to the GPU they are accused of cheating!"

it seams to be retarded to think it is cheating. If the process improves performance in an honest way the it is not cheating! Some may think this is not an honest way but think about the fact NVIDEA did not submit there driver to Futuremark and may not. The process they took seams above board and not tweaked for Futuremark only.

From what I understand, it is cheating if it only works for 3dmark and it doesn't actualy mean increase in performance in games.

what about when 3DFX released a driver update that provided an option for "Geometry Assist"
Essentially giving 3DFX the ability to do Hardware TnL (which 3dfx made clear they weren't supporting from the start) What happened in 3DMark01se was asstounding, nearly doubling the overall 3DMark count... AND in games where H TnL was an option, increasing the overall performance of those games considerably as well. Now if Nvidia is able to spin it and actually provide a fruitful result with say, UT3 and maybe even run the PhysX enhanced maps FAR better then without. And then top it all off with support for much more other games out there.... then shit yes, go for it nvidia. It's an awesome feature... push the living crap out of it.
