iPhone 3G to be Shipped Bricked: Internal Memos

Don't worry Rogers customers. Despite your really screwed-up service plans, you're not being picked on and thus not the only ones being shipped bricked iPhone 3Gs.

Leaked memos from both Rogers and AT&T indicate that although we know that you won't be able to leave the store without activating the iPhone 3G, they're in fact bricked from the factory, to make unlocking and jailbreaking even tougher.

I hope they aren't using the same tactics on the non-US versions of the iPhone. I was thinking about getting one of the 3G iPhones, but if one of the requirements is that I have iTunes.. I am not sure if I want to mess with it. I will just go ahead and get a Nokia N82.

Currently, I live in Kuwait and I really like the way cell phones are handled here. It's pretty much the same as European countries where you buy whatever phone you want and put your SIM in it.

Our cell phone company here is Wataniya and they don't even sell cell phones. You walk in buy whatever plan pre-paid or post-paid and then stick the SIM in your phone.....

The US needs this system. I am still a US Citizen and I am sick of seeing cell phone companies trap you with multi-year contracts, large early termination fees, and a very limited selection of phones. The things I just mentioned are why I have refused to have a cell phone when I was living in the US.

Sorry for the rant, but if I can't get an unlocked iPhone with 3G and no contract then I won't be getting one.

They are nice phones but closing down like this is just one more reason why I'll never but one...the top 3 reasons I would never buy one are

1 - iTunes
2 - iTunes
3 - iTunes
