Sharkoon SATA Quickport

"Sharkoon have introduced an interesting product for PC enthusiasts that allows you to plug SATA hard drives into an external enclosure – without the need to screw into a drive bay. It looks just like a HDD docking station, you can plug/remove drives at any time and access the data on your PC via USB cable. As computers are upgraded it is inevitable that spare SATA drives will start to mount up, and yet there isn’t enough space to attach them to most motherboards. This solution lets you quickly access drives when required, saving the hassle of swapping drives inside your PC with the power off. You can use 3.5” or 2.5” drives without the need for any screwdriver or tools."

ok did I miss something?
Did Thermaltake change names?

Because judging by the pictures and by my eyes looking at my Thermaltake BlacX USB2 model on my desk.... these 2 things are the SAME THING.

The only difference is the logo on the front (mine says Blac X in the middle with a red/orange X, then "Thermaltake" at the bottom right)

this is crazy... same back side, same buttons and ports with same exact writting and lines around, same EVERYTHING !

How safe is this for the HDD? I mean long term.

I have one looking just like it on my desk, but without any brand name. It's likely that several companies get this unit from a single factory in China. Anyway it's neat for testing drives or when using spare drives for backup. As long as one doesn't bump the unit when it's running it should be safe enough, but a drive free in the air like that will push whatever noise characteristics it has straight to your ears. The eSATA version would be nice since USB 2.0 is quite a limit on a drive today, but it's really up to how much one would use it.
