SPEC Validates Opteron as Fastest 2P and 4P CPU
SUNNYVALE, CALIF. -May 22, 2003- AMD [NYSE: AMD] today announced the official confirmation and posting of performance benchmark scores that demonstrate the AMD Opteron(tm) processor as the highest performing 2P and 4P server processor in the world.
The 57 scores approved and posted by the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. (SPEC) validate the AMD Opteron processor-based system's performance lead in several categories including: * Highest recorded 2P and 4P SPECweb(r) 99 scores, breaking for the first time the 10,000 barrier on a 4P system * Highest recorded 2P and 4P SPECint(r)_rate2000 scores * Best scaling 1P to 2P to 4P SPECfp(r)_rate2000 scores * Highest recorded 4P SPECweb 99_SSL scores * Highest recorded 1P, 2P, and 4P SPECjbb(r) 2000 scores "SPEC confirms what we've claimed all along," said Marty Seyer, vice president and general manager of AMD's Microprocessor Business Unit. "AMD Opteron is the highest performing processor for 2P and 4P servers, providing our customers with breakout performance in 64-bit computing while protecting their investments in 32-bit applications and programs." On the SPEC benchmark tests, which are considered among the most important for servers, the AMD Opteron processor achieved scores that were up to 144 percent greater* than competing 32-bit server processors and 43 percent higher performing** than servers based on competing 64-bit processors. SPEC is a non-profit organization that oversees benchmarks that measure the performance of high-performance computers. Additional details about SPEC testing standards and requirements can be found at www.spec.org. AMD Opteron benchmarks scores can be read at www.amd.com/opteronperformance. About the AMD Opteron(tm) Processor The AMD Opteron processor is based on AMD's eighth-generation processor core, and marks the introduction of the industry's first 64-bit, x86 technology implementation. This technology is designed to preserve companies' investments in 32-bit applications, while allowing a seamless transition to 64-bit computing, as those companies require. The AMD Opteron processor is designed to deliver high-performance server and workstation solutions for today's most demanding enterprise applications. The processor is designed to be scalable, reliable and compatible, which can result in lower total cost of ownership. Key AMD Opteron processor innovations include an integrated memory controller, which reduces memory bottlenecks, and HyperTransport(tm) technology, which increases overall performance by removing or reducing I/O bottlenecks, increasing bandwidth and reducing latency. ------------------------------------- Source: TechConnect via AMD |
