Debunking Common Windows Performance Tweaking Myths
As a tech writer, one of my biggest pet peeves is the plethora of bad advice littered across almost every web site dedicated to system tweaking. Besides the tweaks that simply don't work, some of them will actually cause your computer to run even slower—or worse. Let's examine some of the most offensive myths out there regarding PC performance tweaking, and debunk them once and for all.

There is a lot of argument around the system services, as this is an area where there is often some bloat to be trimmed, in services which are only useful if....
Black Viper's Web Site - probably the finest authority on which services are essential, which are useful, and which are just bloat unless you have a configuration that is uncommon for average use.

when i setup new system i dont touch ANY of the microsoft services due to that fact that i don't know what the user may do..
however i've come across systems where someone had either built, or did thier tweaking that removed services that generally wouldn't be used which ended up causing program/hardware A: to not work when being installed, leading to a considerable number of problems. While alot of services aren't needed, are started but then stop emediately afterwards, people start disabling these ones so they never have a chance to start..... the problems show up when a specific program or hardware or whatever requires that service to be running before/durring/after the installation of whatever it may be. Causing alot of grief, specially considering when it's difficult to figure out why such new thing added to the machine is not working. For the top end enthusiast users full understanding the system and knowing how to do all that, it's fine. for any average joe blow..... NO don't touch it, BAD....
