It's a bit hard to benchmark a Rage3D and a HD4870 card on the computer with same specifications and for example 3D Mark 2001SE, because of the incompatibility.

You can't get valid results. No way.

Yes, but you can benchmark the Rage 3D on the older and the 4870 on say 06. Not sure if you could actualy use the Rage3D under XP, but that is hardly necessary.
Any such list wouldn't have to go back years ago, but only include the cards from the last 2 years, then build on that. Even after say 7 years when modern cards will be more or less relics, the data about how they performed, would still exist.
