Can Steve Jobs save the iPod?

One of the unintended consequences of the success of the iPhone is that it has rendered the classic iPod and its diminutive sisters — the nano and the shuffle — nearly irrelevant. What do you need a second MP3 player for if you’ve already got a few hundred tunes in your pocket?

lol, but really I don't think he should be to worried.

Not to many people want or can afford the Iphone or any smart phone for that matter. The $200+ for the phone is not the problem its' the $1,200+ for the data plan, talk time, whatever else that you have to pay for every year.

Over the course of 2 years that most of them make you sign you are paying about $2,400 around the base price ($100 a month) is a complete and total rip off.

The Ipod touch is just as good, and a heck of a lot cheaper

I agree Apple's Iphone is a cool phone, but is it worth all the money that goes with it? Well of course it's your call and I think HELL NO and you say HELL YEAH lol...

I just don't have that amount of free cash laying around each year to be able to afford a phone like this nor even if I did still don't think I would fork out that much.

For $1,200 every year I could buy some nice stuff.

The iphone is nice, I agree. Although after using the Nokia E71 the iphone looks a little poor imo.

I think the iphone is impressive and cool, but even if I could afford one, I wouldn't get one. I prefer mobile phones of the candy shape and I just love my SE phones, so...
While my phone can play music and has a memory stick for more, I never use it as a player. I hate the idea of something happening and needing to use the phone but having wasted even that small amount of battery for music...call me paranoid lol. I have a Sony network walkman (nw407 IIRC) and a creative zen stone plus for my music on the go.
What I am trying to say is, I can't see the classic mp3 player (ipod too) to have a serious problem in the long run.
Too many people like me.
