'Tough choices' for UK broadband

The cost of taking fibre-based broadband to every UK home could top £28.8bn, says a report. Compiled by the government's broadband advisory group, the report details the cost of the different ways to wire the UK for next generation broadband.

I am getting tired of this BS they shove down the UK public. Other countries, european too, that are larger than the UK have no problem already achieving much greater speeds at a much smaller price per month per household and with many times no download/bandwidth limit at all. People in "high" places in the UK decided years ago that this is a cow worth milking and they are stealing from the british public. It is unacceptable to be able to have, for example, 12Mbit-24 connections for 15 pounds per month without any limit to rural remote towns in Greece and only have 8+ in a couple of major cities in the UK for 2-3 times the cost and with download limits.
Same or better in other countries like Sweden which is muck larger, much more spread out than the UK with harsher weather conditions and with higher VAT, and still having better and cheaper internet access.

They are just in the process of upgrade the whole New Zealand network to fibre too. Every town/city with more than 500 peeps (80% of the population) should be able to get fibre speed broadband by 2012.

And it's costing NZ$1.4 billion (GBP573 million I think)
