Seinfeld - Gates Commercial Take 2: Better; Still No Windows
Perhaps stung by the criticism of their first Seinfeld - Gates commercial, Microsoft on Thursday night showed off their second in the series during CBS' Big Brother. The ad was simultaneously uploaded to YouTube, and is titled "New Family -- Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates (Long Version)."

Yes, it was a huge improvement over the pointless one. I'd actually sit through this ad despite the long run time (I'd watch it once anyway). I see where this is going and I guess we can look forward to more "Bill and Jerry's excellent adventures"

Hahah, good one (Bill and Jerry's Excellent Adventures). But can we stop seeing Gates wag his butt or try to dance?
I did laugh a couple times at this one, and I think it was much improved. Even Gates seems less stilted, though he still ain't no actor. |

This keeps coming up, Gates being an actor; what exactly are we comparing him to? This isn't a movie or anything major, it's a commercial. Of all the commercials that make it on TV, how many use real actors? All these stupid family commercials like Swiss Chalet, Pizza Hut, etc... all have such crappy, phoney actors...
But then Gates is in a commercial and everyone's rating him up as an actor. He's not an actor and not supposed to be one, he's just the face everyone recognizes and equates to Microsoft. They can't use Tom Cruise and call it a Microsoft ad and then go, "But now there's an actor!" Bill Gates being in the ad itself is what makes it a Microsoft commercial. He's a philanthropist and a businessman, not an actor. No reason to be comparing him to real actors. The commercial was funny and made one think of Microsoft without ever saying Microsoft. That's what makes it so amazing. |

Pretty much everyone with a computer already runs Windows and unless they specifically name drop "Vista" then I don't see how it will be an effective advertising campaign. Perhaps, I dunno, this is just the first stage and future ads will cut to the chase.
