Times journalist tries text messaging in the simulator (Source: Times)Drivers who text while driving are more dangerous than those under the influence of alcohol or marijuana

A British study done by the Transport Research Laboratory (TRL) for the British Royal Automobile Club Foundation indicates it's more dangerous to send text messages while driving even when compared to drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

i like the fact using statistics... that it's more unlikely that you'll be killed you will have killed someone while under the influence of drugs or alcohol vs people with out. what is it, something like 40,000 people are killed in or by vehicles a year vs 5000 those that were drunk.

i like those odds.

Well, yeah. But it seems like common sense would say it's DEF more distracting than cell phones without a headset, and that's been banned in a lot of places.

The point is that even without a study, one would say, if you're gonna ban TALKING on a cell phone sans headset, why not texting? Even without that new study, common sense should rule.

they are follwing this up with "having two hookers on your lap is more dangerous that drinking 3 kegs of guinness while driving".

I would love to know who funds this garbage. clearly its an excuse for some idiot researcher to get plastered and enjoy himself for a few weeks while being paid for it. Actually im in the wrong business........

texting while driving is more dangerous than under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but emailing while driving improves concentration and reaction times...

For the opening post.. the researcher must be out of it to begin with..Drink or Drugs is less dangerous.. What planet are they living on
