A Facebook group formed for those opposed to the site's new design is nearing 2.7 million supporters, and the leaders are organizing a two-day boycott to bring their point across.

I'm not too thrilled with the new design (ok, I hate it) but what's worse is the stupid ads which are targeted based on your personal details. That really pisses me off (plus the ads are mega retarded in the first place).

Funny, because I've got ads that are even targeted based on status updates I've had.

Adblock Plus doesn't block facebook ads.

So the gist of all this is that people began to complain to facebook about how applications were turning the site into myspace. So they upgrade the site's layout in a way that makes more sense and also defaultly hides all the application spam and people continue to complain.

Yet throughout all of this there has been no large body of people actually leaving facebook. There's no where better to go.

I wonder what the ratio is for people who join these protest/boycott groups or events and then actually follow through with it. I'll bet the 2.7 million supporters (you know, the ones using facebook to protest facebook) turns into 20,000 people who honestly leave facebook. And then they'll rejoin in two weeks when their friends tag them in a picture and they get an email about it.

People are so stupid

Singles ads are nonstop, which I very much doubt would occur if I was listed as married. Ads which use keywords in my status updates or from my info bother me, I didn't sign up to Facebook for that.

At least if there was a goddamn button to say "no more ads like this" instead of "More Ads"...what kind of idiot would ask for more ads?!

The new interface is alright, it's been bad for me because I had a clean and good looking profile with few apps but I like it for friends which have all sorts of crap on theirs and I don't have to wade through it to view their pages. Facebook should have given the users a choice between skins much as DH or other sites have skins. No one likes having a new theme crammed down their throats especially when it's clearly motivated by ad revenue not user feedback.

i mean the ones that make noise bother me... but not that much..

who cares if the system pull a random add out that is in relation to your profile status.. no one else is ripping that info off from you..

And who cares about ads in the first place.... skip over them... ignore them..... are you going to get upset when a TV ad pops up that may pertain to you?

Who cares? I care, especially when the site involves my real information. I am entitled to my opinion and if some other social networking site comes along that does it better perhaps I'll switch (I don't use Myspace).

imo i prefer the new facebook design over the overtly cluttered look of the old one... all this bitching is from people that don't like change, cant comprehend the use of "tabs" or both....

every site uses information based ads.... even driverheaven in a "sense" but not in the same factor.

they base it on your IP address, where you live, what sex you are, what age you are.......

your not going to get away from it.... and considering that facebook is FREE, having a few ads, that randomly pop an ad up that would be semi appropriate for you is absalutely nessary for the damn site to remain free...

Your entitled to your opinion, your opinion isn't wrong, but it can be easily seen as rather stupid or more along the lines of overly parinoid or hell, selfish...picky, etc.
