"Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
Since the codename for the next release of Windows was announced, many of us have wondered what the actual name would be.
Well, it turns out that the codename for the next version of Windows, Windows 7, is going to be the actual name for the product. And in what is somewhat of a passing of the torch, the announcement was made not on the Windows 7 blog, but on the Windows Vista blog. ___________ Source: Tech-Ex |

A return to simplicity that I like, but certainly chosen partly to portray a difference to the Vista pseudonym. And of course, Vista 1.2 wouldn't have sounded very sexy either.

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
Yeah, they should have done this to start with.
They need to do away with the "Service Pack' BS too, and just go with 'conventional' numbering. Windows 7, then 7.1 etc. It's too bad that they didn't have the cajones to make it 64 bit only though. The other thing they need to so is get rid of all the different 'flavors', and just go back 2 versions at most, like XP and XP Pro.

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
I'd like to see them go all the way and just make one version of Windows 7 and it should be flexible enough for home users and businesses alike. If it's sold at a good price it will encourage more people to switch (unlike the insanely high cost of Vista Ultimate).

So basicaly you are not just ok with just paying for newer version/refurbished version of an OS, you now you want pay for the patches too.
Yeah, I don't think so.

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
Service packs are fine..
Windows XP was nice..... vista is cool.. windows 7 is a bit dull but whatever.... someone is bound to claim MEII again on it. I could care less what the next windows OS is named, so long as it's a obvious and definite leap up from vista.

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
right...i know what you meant by "MEII," but what OS is MEII? vista isn't NOT winME, and there hasn't been another version of ME since ME. and if you're referring to Vista being the "MEII" as to what some people have dubbed it, that is out of context as those people are simply winXP fanboys.
dude seriously. your having made that previous comment of "MEII," that's the kind of stuff people give you neg rep, or get mad at you for. and those are only other users like you and i. supermod/admin they play with your rep power and then later on you get all butt hurt about it because you're like, "wtf?! can these people not think outside the box for a momment???" if people do, as i am sure many people out there do, it's surely not the same box you're looking at from the outside of it. and, there's no "IMO" anywhere in your "MEII" post there either. but....that's for a different topic. lets keep going forward and keep this thread on topic please. judas, or anybody else, if you wish to continue this discussion, make a new thread about it and have a link in this thread. |

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
I actually liked Me, it was a very polished Win98, and it wasn't more than anyone was expecting. I bought it for all my home PC's as it was very cheap and I felt it ran considerably better than 98.
As for being labelled MEII? Anyone who remembers and knows what Me is should have enough sense to realise Windows 7 is clearly not MEII. My 2c. But as this thread is clearly about the name of Windows 7 being announced, and let me check no. it wasn't named Windows Millenium 2. Let's cool down and keep this topic on ermm topic.

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
And the internal version number of Windows 7 will be..., *drumroll*, ... Microsoft Windows 6.1! Which is of course only fair since it will be all Vista in the base, but I wonder what Windows 7.0 will be...

I fail to see a point where Judas claims that Windows 7 is going to be Me part 2. In fact his post is more in favour of Windows 7 than anything else in it. Guys you need to relax a bit.

Re: "Windows 7" to be Released as ... Windows 7
I think the big thing Microsoft needs to do is purge useless code from the OS (I'm sure there is a lot boating it in there) as well as get rid of multiple versions (Basic, Premium, Business, Ultimate...). It just confuses people. If they really want to regain their footing they need to come across as more user-friendly.

did i say vista was MEII? I said it's likely going to be called that those have claimed xp MEII, those that claimed vista IS MEII, and the process will continue with those that will likely call windows 7 MEII. Reread what i posted, i never said anything about me thinking vista was MEII at all. The comments following have nothing to do with the situation at all, and only has a pratical application due to your assumption that i was claiming anything of the sort. I'm one that has a habit of attacking those that call vista MEII. I myself have made it quite clear numerous times that Windows vista "Is the best, more stable, most reliable" so and so forth version of windows to date.

I also liked Windows ME, i used it right from the day it arrived (almost) until windows XP service Pack 1 arrived. It was a very very fast OS and was much better then windows 98se. However it was a very very picky OS as if the hardware didn't agree with ME, it showed it almost emediately with errors or general problems, if not it refused to finish installing. This has not occured at all for me with respect to windows vista.... and i highly doubt will occur with windows 7.
