Chinese Users Angered As Hacked OS "Fades to Black"

We've discussed Microsoft's plans to roll out the "Black Screen of Annoyance" to users with hacked copies of Windows XP or Windows Vista. Now, Microsoft's new tactic is to annoy users, but not disable their OS when a hacked copy is detected. Reaction of Chinese users makes one wonder if the "Great Firewall of China" is keeping them from knowing that information.

cracks me up. they are violating the law by using illegal software, then bitch when the software doesnt act properly. i bet the morons that have autoupdate enabled arent complaining about the os making use of their comps when it is adding security fixes & added/better stability/functionality.
personally i think it is a good idea of ms myself. they are actually letting you continue to use their os without paying for it, just have some inconveience. & it keeps everybody runnin windows. & you know some of those peeps will eventually break down & do the right thing & pay for their os.

Does it only change the desktop background to black? That does really not sound annoying. I'm sometime running a black background on purpose because I like it.

they should focus on vista..... xp is dead..... don't keep badgering people with it... frankly i'd say as much that with the death of xp .. no more copies being sold and whatnot.. they should just set it up so that reguardless of the number of copies installed that they all activate without any issue.

no the whole screen goes black, all u see on your monitor is a black field.

Nope...it will show a black desktop, but the icons will still be there. They have a screen shot at the link. Also, it looks like they have a big NAG at the bottom right saying it's not a valid/legal copy. Hard to tell as the screenie isn't all that big.

Now if I was MS, I'd give them a week, and then I'd just uninstall the OS.

I love the comments about sueing, and it's illegal. "I'm not paying you for your OS, and now you're bitching about it? I'm gonna sue!"
