The Cost of Running Your PC

Have you ever thought about how much it cost to run your PC -- the one you're using to read this article? What does it cost to play games, surf the Internet, or download files? It all costs money -- money that you, your parents, or whoever is in charge of the monthly electricity will have to pay. Those of you in charge of paying this bill will surely be interested in keeping costs down, which is why you might want to pay a little more attention to what sort of hardware you are using in your computer.

Re: The Cost of Running Your PC

Must put the power meter on my power-eating Prescott, and see if I can justify going to a more power efficient Core 2.

Hmm, I thought a P4-640 was more than 84W TDP, and it also does EIST and C1E.
The most common Core 2's seem to be 65W TDP (and outperform the P4 by a considerable margin, so actual load power at a given workload will be lower. If the board could take one, I'd already have done it, so to go Core 2 would mean at least a new motherboard, losing the OEM windows.

10 cents an hour is nearly 10,000 dollars a year.

That's a hell of a lot.

Re: The Cost of Running Your PC

Well I use my C2D rig for gaming, 3D modelling, photochopping only, but my notebook is on 24/7 and draws only 30 Watts of power. Can't complain really, it runs silent, cool and I can use it in my bed.

You failed at math?

0.10 x 24 hours = 2.4 $ a day

2.4 x 365 days = 876 $

That was the epic fail for the day lol.

Just funny because if it cost that much per year everyone would go broke because having lights on, tv, and other things will more than likely equal your daily computer usage.
