Due in large part to the overwhelming success of Apple's iPhone smartphone, touch screen technology is winning more attention than ever before.

Countless handset makers have tried to mimic Apple's success with the iPhone by creating touch-screen-based device of their own, but the vast majority failed to sell even a fraction of the number of handhelds Apple shipped in 2008 -- somewhere in the neighborhood of 10 million devices.

Well if the blackberry storm would put as much money into the marketing as the Iphone I would have to think it would have great success. Also the G1 from Google has to put more into marketing or how else are people going to know about these phones?

I'm pretty sure I'm getting a storm. Pretty much all but one of the negatives are positive to me.

this could be the phone i may want to get.

i'd love to get an iPhone or the new G1 phone, but neither are available to Verizon customers, and I don't want to jump ships from one carrier to another just for a phone. it'll be too expensive to me and i still have a little over a year before i can switch carriers without being penalized.

iTunes sucks.

First off you guys are crazy for wanting a smart phone lol. I just can't see spending over $2,000 just for 2 years when it's all said and done...

It would be cool, but the price is just to crazy high.

Second off Itunes does suck and I wish people would see it and demand a change. Zune software is just way better in looks and performance and how it works with your music!

A couple years back I finished my Bachelors Degree in Marketing and for one of my capstone classes I studied the ipod and it's competitors. The conclusion, after a lengthy class discussion, was that the ipod's competition was far superior in most ways (compatibility, battery life, sound quality, options, price, ...) and yet Apple had most of the market share.

So what did we all learn from that? What every marketing student should understand: You can convince anybody of anything if you market it well. It doesn't even have to be that great of a product, but if its marketed well it doesn't matter. I'm sure the iphone is no exception, and Apple has the marketing dollars to convince many people that buying their products is the "cool" thing to do. Don't worry about doing any product research, just buy what everyone else is buying.

What is even funnier is that Apple didn't have much market share until they made their gadgets compatible with Windows

i'm sure that's because Microsoft has a 25% share of Apple. So, in order for them to gain market, they made it windows compatible and both parties were then happy

Microsoft should just say fuck it and buy out Apple lol.

To bad they can't do that because the US Government will not allow it

It's actually very convenient from a business standpoint. Instead of carrying around an iPod, a phone and a day planner I have one device that does it all and syncs up to my email, calendar and address book software.

Interesting... considering the Zune is a direct copy of the iPod and Microsoft's music software is a direct copy of iTunes. (And should we talk about Vista copying OS X?) There's a reason Apple's software is being copied: it's simple and it works.

Well they may get some of there ideas copied, but if you have not used the Zune software in a while the look and feel of the program is nothing even close to how Itunes runs. I just find it way easier to use and just wished it worked with my Ipod lol
