New MacBook Pros Suffering NVIDIA Defect?

Since July, when NVIDIA first announced it was taking a $150 - 200 million charge to cover GPU problems in their notebook line, vendors such as HP, Dell, and Apple have had reports of failures in those GPUs. But when Apple unveiled its new notebooks in October, NVIDIA said that the GPUs in these notebooks didn't have the bad bumping material that caused the prior issues. The Inquirer decided to check for itself, and reports to have found high-lead solder bumps, just as in the earlier problematic GPUs.

Nvidia really has to get there act together for whoever they supply because it sure makes that company look bad when there supply is sucking it up...

But you think Apple would have caught this, but maybe passed it along not caring because they needed to release the new line asap?

They found out the issue in the old laptop's, don't you think they would have checked this time around other than just taking Nvidia's word for it?

I would have to guess they will go with ATI on the next revision.

Re: New MacBook Pros Suffering NVIDIA Defect?

While Nvidia's whole act over this (well not this latest of course) is the major reason I changed to an ATI product for my new PC, the specific article by the Inq feels a bit...strange. Sure, there are no problems with the new macbooks, but let's try to find something that will make it look like there is.
Not good.

Hmm...while back ago I read the guy who runs "The Inquirer" has a personal vendetta against Nvidia. So whenever I see news well okay any news from them I skip it. I like my news unbiased & un-opinionated.

Re: New MacBook Pros Suffering NVIDIA Defect?

the inquirer has always been biased and "strange," this article is no different - looks like the editor/writer has found an "excuse" to put down both apple and nvidia in one...

Well bear in mind that Charlie on the inquirer who has been reporting all these anti-nvidia articles is a very good friend of a guy high up in ATI/AMD.

hate thinking this could be part of the reason but I know this industry very well by now and how it works......
