CATALYST drivers and 3DMark2003

It looks like Terry Makedon (AKA Catalyst Maker is the name he goes by on DH's forums) posted over at R3D saying that ATi will NOT adopt the 3Dmark03 Optimizations that where discovered in the last set of drivers, to any future Catalyst Driver release.
Quote:
The optimizations for 3DMark03 that were in our last CATALYST release were considered by most to be perfectly legitimate. However, we are removing them to dispel all doubt
Some may argue that they are cheats, but many will defend and will make you understand that they are legit optimizations, but personally, I'm glad that ATi has decided to take this stance. Also, I'm extremely impressed on how well ATi has handled them selves in this whole ordeal. Be sure to check out the whole statement that Terry publicly stated.

I can't believe this has turned into this big of a deal... It's getting quite annoying.

I'm glad to hear ATi doesn't plan to change THEIR strategy just because nVidia is forced to use driver "surprises".

Though really a "joke" driver might be in order... but it would be a waist of time. Not worth it.

Hmm this thing beats me. THese driver optimisations from ati are just the sort of optimisations they make to run games faster without loosing any IQ. Well aren't we paying money for such optimisations. DOn't get me wrong ati is really handling this issue good but it think the put some hard paid hours in getting such optimilisation should they throw it away?
