USB 3.0 will crush eSATA, FireWire

Intel demonstrated a working version of USB 3.0 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week. Here's why it will make eSATA and FireWire obsolete

it'll be nice indeed... some seriously FAST as hell flash drives..

course hopefully by that time Sata 3 will become available which hints at some pretty nice figures.

Re: USB 3.0 will crush eSATA, FireWire

the max speed may be greater, but if it's still host/slave based like USB 1&2, then the latency is still going to be much higher than current firewire and esata...

Re: USB 3.0 will crush eSATA, FireWire

well the CPU usage will dictate the latency, which is unfortunately part of USB's Host/Slave architecture, firewire's peer-to-peer nature keeps the CPU usage and latency much lower that USB, giving it a much faster sustained transfer rate

yup... that's why most people would rather use a firewire to interconnect machines or multiple machines vs a usb link......

same for high-access portable hard-drives and audio interfaces
