CPU makers postpone DDR3 generation to 2010

Although both Intel and AMD were originally expected to fully transition to DDR3 across their product lines in 2009, with the two players now postponing their DDR3-only chipset schedules, the DDR3 generation is not expected to arrive until 2010, according to sources at motherboard makers.

so amd is holding off and the x58 intel boards are ddr3... triplechannel... wtf

wtf exactly. intel is 3 chipsets deep into ddr3....

I think that mean they will keep manufacturing ddr2 chipsets along with ddr3(for intel X58 is available , don't know about AMD though) till 2010 at which they will completely transfer to ddr3 chipsets only.

they're pushing back DDR3 ONLY until next year, it means they're still making DDR2 compatible chipsets

is there a x58 board out there with DDR2 cause i was under the impression that the x58 and core i7 was DDR3 only

as far as i know X58 is ddr3. i think it is required for the mem bandwidth.
previous 2 chipsets were designed for ddr3 but have ddr2 variants. dont think that is possible with x58.
