Online child abuse images warning

Children's charities have expressed "serious concerns" many UK households still have access to images showing child sex abuse via their computers. The government had asked all internet service providers (ISPs) to block illegal websites by the end of 2007.

i thought/assumed this was already done. y dont they raid whoever hosts this crap & blow their fkn servers up.

there's one website i know of where its users upload CP. however, the web host will remove such images from their website.

this website has been called a "cult" by oprah herself.

i agree, just assumed the sickos would be harder to find than the servers that host their fkn images. start at the feet & chop as u go.

Can the IWF reputation, and public support for censorship, be salvaged after the Wikipedia debacle?

Is dishonest, silent blocking the answer, returning false 404/403 errors?

Censorship systems are usually introduced under the guise of some emotive topic such as stopping child abuse which nobody could argue with. Such systems are very very unlikely to have any actual impact at all on the actual problem they claim to solve. Such systems often break or hinder the normal working of the internet, as seen by wikipedia recently. They are usually easy to circumvent. If they work at all then they just drive the offensive use underground and using encryption so making it harder to find and deal with. They are also the thin end of the wedge as once a system is in place then adding more is easy. Bear in mind most ISPs using such systems then have no control over what is censored or why. If we accept censorship for child abuse, then we have to accept it for terrorism, and then maybe political extremist views, pictures of policemen, and then maybe not so extreme views, and maybe wrong thinking or pictures of policeman (oh wait, that was just made illegal too!)... "then they came for me and there was no-one left to speak out".

Pretty much covers all the anti censorship points, after all if you are going to censor the internet, why not intercept phone calls and mail too?

To sum up the main anti-censorship points:
1. It only works against those without the skill to evade it
2. The fallout when it goes wrong can be widespread
3. Once censorship for any reason, however righteous, gains a foothold, expansion is inevitable
4. Those administering censorship may be biased and/or incompetent

The hype of "cleanfeed", is browsing safe from accidental exposure to illegal images, the truth is "you don't know what we block or why we block it. or how careful we are that it is right".

sorry but i think that argument is bs. while i am 100% against censoreship/regulation on the web, there are somethings that absolutely should not be allowed under any circumstances. this crap falls directly in that area. in fact i would sayprobably the only other thing is something that can be proved to directly support terrorism. i consdier the child porno/abuse stuff worse.
the argument that it pushses them undergorund/encrypted is ridiculou(tho tru) you can not allow this shit to exist in ANY form. it must be fought on ALL levels. saying we are against it but its basically ok to allow it to be hosted because of the causes you listed is still giving it the old 'well well just turn a blind eye cause we dont want to deal with what it wouldtake to shut it down'.
personally this is the type of argument that peeps who support this crap would diseminate. not saying that is you because i know that you are just presenting an argument(& a legit one) vs censorship. as for me, i dont mind giving up some internet 'freedom'(not that i think that will happen) if it helps put the hammer to theses sick fks heads.
