New IE8 still the slowest browser

Microsoft Corp. may be talking up the performance boost it gave to its just-launched Internet Explorer 8, but the new browser remains the slowest of the top five on the market, benchmark tests show.

Several "articles" like this... and they're stupid. What about flash? what about other heavy graphics addled pages? I switch between firefox and IE8 and with IE8 I never end up waiting for anything. Not so with firefox-which has become a victim of it's own bloat.

Re: New IE8 still the slowest browser

These tests while interesting are not that relevant. Many of the quoted differences are in such minute time frames that they would not be noticeable.

Certainly not defending IE as its probably my least favourite browser but just thought id bring up the point.

Re: New IE8 still the slowest browser

I'm not finding it slow at all, it's faster than IE7 was on the same machine. No I haven't tried all the other browsers either, this does what I need at the moment. Sometimes benchmarks are just that, benchmarks.... they don't always translate to real world.

Not that the internet is "Real" world anyways....... Just saying this isn't slow by any means on this old system.

I get what you mean man. I think a choice of browser now is down to more how you like the interface, configuration, additional options etc. They all do the job.

Re: New IE8 still the slowest browser

Agreed. Took me a lot of time to switch from IE6 to IE7, due to compatibility issues, since I used IE mainly for compatibiliy (my main browser is SeaMonkey, and I also have Opera installed). IE7 to IE8 I switched immediately, simply because IE8 can't be any worse. So far it's okay, though it still has some little annoying things, like having an "open" on the right click menu.

Re: New IE8 still the slowest browser

I forgot a major point: IE8 is as good as it is right after it is downloaded. To get firefox running the way I want it to takes a lot of tweaking.

totally agree with you. the one thing i do like very much about FF over ie7 (not sure if ie8 has it because i haven't installed the final release yet), is the add-on ABP. particularly here at work where some website's ads, regardless of the browser, tend to make my work machine crawl to a stop.

anyways, IE is my preferred browser, but like you said and how preference should be based on, is all personal preference.

Re: New IE8 still the slowest browser

BTW, having used IE8 just a bit more, it suddenly started stuttering. So I went back to SeaMonkey.
