think the gov should had a tax for that type of crap. if the outsourcing led to better support/service at a lower cost that was at least partially passed ont to the consumer the ni wouldnt have as much of a problem with it. the thing is, it doesnt, outsourced service & support, as a whole is worse. not saying it is great here, but it is definetly better.
i am speaking from my personal experience with electronics & medical related stuff at work. my wifes experince in health care & the health ins industry. direct conversations with freinds & peeps i work with related to work & personal experience, & anecdotal stories from all over.
while the current economy justifies some cost cutting measures, this type of crap was going on when the economy was in full stride & will be happening ehrn it recovers, un less the gov can make doing it enough of a financial burden that the companies involve really take a look at all options & realise that if this trend continues it will cut into the base of people that are able to/want to buy their products.
obviously im not just speaking of ibm here, i think there are companies that are actually using the economic situation to make moves like this because it is more pc right now. jmo.

Well, that would require them to think ahead. They only tend to think short-term.

Additionally, any moves in that direction would be labeled "protectionist" or "anti-globalism." Corporations are too powerful and lobby too hard.
