Large RAM figures have been around on high-end PC servers and supercomputers for several years, but because of the limits of Microsoft Windows XP and Vista, which can only handle 3GB of RAM, they haven’t really entered into the consumer marketplace.

perhaps they're are talking about the manufacturers like HP, Dell, eMachine, etc. who doesn't really push 64bit OSes and thus does not implement (on a large scale to the end-user consumer) 4GB RAM or more?

So just how much does 192GB cost? Well, you do the math: $1,800 for hardware plus $40,800 for 12 RAM modules plus $8,000 or so for Dell’s customary 20% markup. Max that sucker out, and you’re looking at a potential $50,000 price tag.
I thought servers wasn't that much expensive and that for one unit.

i'm telling you people.... it's started..... similare jumps in memory like 10-12 years ago.... we'll be sticking 16gb sticks in machines thinking it's rediculious and in a matter of a year... they'll be considered relatively small...

Re: Dell offers PC that packs 192GB of DDR3 RAM [not a typo]

Its odd how Samsung can make a 16GB DDR3 stick, yet they can't even make a 4GB DIMM (not SODIMM)
