Energy efficiency is a big area of research around the globe. One way to ease our demand for natural resources like oil and coal and reduce our environmental impact is to use less power. One of the biggest areas of research when it comes to using less natural resources and creating less pollution is in the hybrid auto industry.

what's rediculious is the cost of manufacturering these LEDs don't explain the cost of what they are selling each one at......

other then to say "it's a new technology" it's actually quite old....

currently the ones that are most affordable (and that's an overstatement) are still far to directional on their ability to light. they are bright yes, but not for what they need to be. Flashlights that are LED are brilliant, far more flexible and directional.. i sell led flashlights.. they are dirt cheap..... most of the cost is in the damn batteries and the casing.... NOT the leds themselves

anyways...

even the highest end high powered LEDs dont cost more than $25 retail (SSC P7 or Cree MC-E). the cost for a company would be significantly less than that, due to the lack of retail overhead and the quantity discounts companies get for buying in the thousands

unless the drivers and heatsinks in the bulbs are expensive to manufacture, the costs shouldnt be NEARLY as high....

SSC came out with a AC 110-220v LED by some means of integrating a voltage regulator of some sort... the LEDs cost like $22 and put out 600lm each...

exactly.

it's no different then solar cells.... bythemselves are dirt freaking cheap... but if you were to try and buy the already completely panel.. it's through the roof rediculious
