Time Warner rationale for bandwidth caps doesn't add up
Time Warner Cable's bandwidth caps are such a hit that the company is rolling them out in more cities this year. The caps start at 5GB per month, but Time Warner Cable's CEO says that they are needed to cover its infrastructure costs. We're (deeply) skeptical.

Re: Time Warner rationale for bandwidth caps doesn't add up
I guess if I was a ceo of any broadband company in the area of other companys that was building a cage around its customers that I would advertise a no cap limit just to get more of their customers.

Re: Time Warner rationale for bandwidth caps doesn't add up
With companies like TimeWarner you can bet that they start analyzing the traffic data for anyone hitting more than 5GB per month, since "they just have to" be doing something fishy in their limited mindset.

Re: Time Warner rationale for bandwidth caps doesn't add up
There are generally two reasons for these caps. One is pure greed. The other is greed mixed with the fact that ISPs just kept selling greater speeds without upgrading their infrastructure.

In this case it just sounds like greed. Hopefully other ISPs won't follow this structure.

Re: Time Warner rationale for bandwidth caps doesn't add up
maybe a few years ago this could have been more plausible. but now, with people getting video on demand through whoever, netflix, their provider, etc., and also more people working from home and connecting remotely to their business/work through VPN or similar, and other legitimate uses/services bandwith usage has spiked greatly for many people.
