IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
A few weeks ago, Microsoft made indications that it would be delivering Office 2007 Service Pack 2 and Internet Explorer 8 as important automatic updates to Windows users on the same day. That day ended up being today, and now many Windows users are being prompted for the first time to install IE8 as an update to their operating system. Since the product's release last month, upgrades have only been voluntary.

About time.
Now regardless if you like using IE all those that do should not be using anything lower than 8. I fear all the people stuck using 5 or 6 and even 7. You have to stay current to try as stay as secure as possible. |

I still can't use it, and have to block it. Damn thing just doesn't run very well on older machines, or Atom based machines.

really? it's doing far better then IE7 on much older machines such as this Intel P2 450mhz machine over here and the Athlon slot A 700mhz over there, not to mention it's considerably improved things for the P3 1ghz with only 256mb of ram.

Hi my name’s Feran and I am working with the Internet Explorer Outreach Team.
Just wanted to let anyone interested know that if you have not yet received notice of the update but would like to download the new IE version, you can get it here: Internet Explorer 8: Home page Thanks! Feran |

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
Just installed it on my P4 3.2 Northwood rig with XP 32 bit SP3, not sure why but when I use it CPU usage jumps as high as 67% initially and it is veeery slow to start loading at all from any site. Just clicked it now and timed it at 18 seconds to load Google . Not impressed at all. On my Vista 64 bit rig with the Q9650 and 8GB of RAM it loads pretty much instantly and only grabs 13% CPU usage.

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
This is really sad.
Microsoft can make a lot of good stuff, but why do they fail so hard making a good browser? Firefox, Safari, etc kill IE hands down. They are just faster, more stable, more secure, again faster. Really nothing good about IE anymore... no reason to use it.

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
Same here. I'm using it on all of my OS's (see specs) and I don't see it as slow at all.
18 secs to load Google?!?! It loads here in something closer to .18 secs. Sounds like either a problem with his system, or ISP to me. I would really like to use the 64-bit version more than I do. ADOBE needs to get off their dead asses and release a 64-bit compatable Flash player.

Not that slow here on a P4 running XP, but much slower than Chrome.

If you would have bothered to look I'll bet you could have found that too. I guess it's just easier to bitch about something than to take a few minutes looking at all of the options/settings.

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
IE8 is almost toe to toe with chrome..... FF is a snails pace for me...
when i click the IE application shortcut.. and it's loaded google before i can move my mouse up to about where the address bar is... it's flipping fast compared to FF sitting and waiting.

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
awwwwww...did I hurt your widdle feewings?
You made a flat out statement that 'something' didn't work when it obviously works for the vast majority of the people. When something doesn't work for me when it's working for other people, I don't just assume that "Its' broken" or "It sucks". I assume that either I didn't install something right, or I missed a setting somewhere, and I either search for the fix,or ask on forums like this to see if someone can help me. Since you said "...i found the solution immediately, ...", I fail to see why you would even bother to claim that the entire browser is a POS, unless you think that bashing Microsft applications somehow enhances your 'e-peen'. OH, and the next time you neg someone...be man enough to leave your name.

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
seriously what is your problem?
i didn't call it a pos i merely commented that if it doensn't install properly yet, again: a common problem, google it yourself before venting your bile, then maybe it shouldn't be a high priority update. the general population aren't as computer savy as us here on dh and won't figure out the solution. you figured out the neg rep, so i wasn't very ambiguous, and you well deserve it, you're clearly some kind of hothead fanboy off his prozac.

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
Well I have tried pretty much every suggestion I can find online to rectify this issue with IE8, none have worked except the common one which is to uninstall IE8 itself. IE7 starts in the blink of an eye.
There are a multitde of people which are having the same issues, some have found that re-registering a DLL solved things, others have uninstalled Spybot Search & Destroy and Spywareblaster which seemed to help them. I did all those plus a complete browser history wipe, total defrag, chkdsk scan, dumped a millenia of other programs, turned off AVG link scanner, turned off system restore, disabled all browser add-ons, uninstalled and reinstalled IE8, wiped added sites from my Hosts file, etc. Nothing has worked except reverting to IE7.The rig in question is a P4 3.2GHz Northy CPU, P4P800E mobo, 4GB of RAM, X1950 Pro, XP Home SP3 with all other updates, any other info you need I will give you. I have zero issues with this rig outside of those with IE8. Any constructive advice will be greatly appreciated outside of switching browsers and/or reformatting that is. Thanks -Pete Last edited by Just Learnin'; May 1, 2009 at 07:18 PM. |

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
JustLearnin': is it just slow, or are there other problems? for me registering actxprxy.dll fixed the problem, but there was a list of dll's that may not register properly on the ms page i evetually found.
slowness seems to be a problem caused by spyware removal software, have you tried this solution?

![]() The actxprxy.dll was the .dll I had tried to no avail. I thought I had accomplished a similar "remedy" as the one in the other solution you posted a link to by resetting my hosts file to the original, perhaps not? You gave me the nerve to do battle again so I am happy I + repped You . Anyway I uninstalled Spywareblaster and Spybot Search & Destroy once again, rebooted and ran chkdsk, then reset my hosts file once more. I have just reinstalled IE8, (4th time), with no add-ons and it seems to be behaving much better. I will give it some time though and keep this trick you linked to up my sleeve in case things go downhill.I don't like being without Spywareblaster and Spybot Search & Destroy though..... ![]() Thank you LeanWolf, all the best -Pete |

Re: IE8 now being delivered as 'Important Update' for Vista, 'High Priority' for XP
Talk about déjà vu.
You guys probably don't remember this, but a long time ago I posted about an Office 2003 update that totally fubared any browsing due to the way it interacted with the restricted sites lists, and that either you had to remove that update to get it to work, or clear out your restricted sites list. It had to do with the size of the list itself. Small list was fine, but a large list wasn't. Eventually Microsoft updated the patch, and you could use the lists that Spybot S&D or SpywareBlaster inject just fine again. Thing is this is exactly what is happening with IE8. Is it IE8 though? Even though I don't use Office 2007 (so I don't have SP2 for it), there is the Office 2007 Compatibility Pack. If you have Office 2003 along with that pack Office 2007 Compatibility Pack Service Pack 2 gets installed along with IE8 instead of Office 2007 SP2. When I get the chance I'll fool around with it, but it's too much of a coincedence to just pass up looking into. |
