Review: Polaroid PhotoMAX PDC 3350 Digital Camera

A few weeks back my review of the Polaroid iON 230 debuted. In the article I talked about Polaroid, what their company is all about. They have been traditionally known as a company dedicated to bringing easy to use photography products into the realm of immediacy for the general public. What do I mean by this? I mean that they wanted to make it simple and “now”, point, click and a few seconds later flapping or no flapping you had an instant photo. In this sense Polaroid had been “going digital” all along. The Ion 230 was utterly simple to use, featured pretty good image quality and came in a sexy durable aluminum ultra-compact housing. This next offering, the PhotoMAX PDC 3350 is something different. It is not ultra-compact by any standards, but it is not overly large either. It sports a wealth of features stuffed into an easy to use format at a reasonable price. As an “entry level” digital camera it aims to please both beginner and intermediate level photographers.

Being an “entry level camera” the 3350 has an auto-mode where everything is taken care of by the camera. For the more adventurous there is also a useful, moderately tweak-able manual mode. In the manual mode you can play around with things like ISO speed, “white balance”, exposure compensation and slow shutter (all of which I will explain later).

So you trust Polaroid, but you want to know how the camera performs before going out and purchasing one? There are many competitors on the market, like the Canon Powershot series which share many similar features but often come at a much higher price. Is it worth paying more or will the 3350 perform up to your needs?
