Apple Looking to Design Its Own Chips
Recent signs indicate that Apple may be looking to design computer chips for its own devices as early as next year. With its own chips, the company could potentially create Apple-only features, but -- perhaps more importantly -- it could also keep Apple's product plans secret from its competitors, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Re: Apple Looking to Design Its Own Chips
I said I would keep out of Apple threads but
I do have to say this would be a great idea for them! They would now have total control over everything and should be able to make great products that should be close to perfect because now everything can be programmed 100% together. |

Re: Apple Looking to Design Its Own Chips
If they lose compatibility with Microsoft's OS, then it might not be a good idea for them.

Re: Apple Looking to Design Its Own Chips
I don't think they'll be designing their own desktop/laptop CPUs, at least not yet
I have a feeling this is more for the iPhone/iPod range, although they *could* be working on their own chipset to support Intel's CPUs, but it doesn't seem likely
