Speed Test: Windows 7 May Not Be Much Faster Than Vista

Improving performance is one of Microsoft's design goals with Windows 7, and many early reviewers (including ours) have said that the new OS seems peppier than Vista. But tests of the Windows 7 Release Candidate in our PC World Test Center found that while Windows 7 was slightly faster on our WorldBench 6 suite, the differences may be barely noticeable to users.

one benchmark essentially... not really real world applied.....lol

Blah this feel faster then xp to me becuase it takes full avg of my direct x 10 card while xp couldn't hehe.

7 will be good, but its like windows 98 was to windows 95, just tweaked and slightly improved. xp and vista were larger changes. no wonder why there are not much difference in performance

Summary: 2% for WorldBench, 12-26% for Nero, 7% for 3DS MAX, lower performance in Office and Firefox.

So at least disk access (Nero) is significantly improved. Office apps might not benefit, but it looks like, even from this small test, a lot of things will.

To make the test fair, compare Vista RC1 to 7 RC
