AMD to Reveal Callisto based Phenom II X2 at Computex

AMD is reportedly planning the launch of its new Callisto based Phenom II X2 500 series at Computex next month. The CPU will be AMD’s first 45nm dual core processor and will mark an important step forward for the chip manufacturer.

WTF?! If this is their primary way of making dual-core CPUs, it's not very economical.

It's still more economical than throwing away or reproducing the chip till it has no errors on all four cores.

generally thats how nearly all the AMD CPUs now are produced, very smart of them really.... save money increase revenue.

cant wait to see these really.... the 7850 and 7750 equal e6550 CPUs at a far lower cost for total system.

I can see the sense in that production method, rather than having multiple fabrications, dies etc, just produce the one - and those "chips" that don't pass the muster for high speed quad core, scale them back until the work perfectly at a given speed/number of cores

would make the whole process a lot cheaper
