While US-based Qualcomm has been a major player driving growth in the wireless handset market over the past 20 years, the company is now looking to expand its market scope into mobile computing with its Snapdragon processor and smartbook platform. Recently, buzz about the smartbook platform has ratcheted up and Qualcomm is expected to make some announcements during Computex about its progress with smartbooks and Snapdragon.

The more I read about ARM based netbooks (or smartbooks, if they want), the more I'm convinced that there's a place for them. The main problem for these devices is IMO software, but with companies like Qualcomm working to improve that, this could end up with a real alternative to a Windows based netbook.
