Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
Microsoft's top Windows business executive said Monday that for all his excitement about Windows 7, he doubts the release of the operating system will lead to a significant spike in PC sales.
"History would tell us that generally as you ship a Windows release into the market...the bump is very modest," Microsoft senior vice president Bill Veghte said in a "fireside chat" at the UBS Global Technology and Services Conference. "You will see a little bit, but it is modest." ____________ Source: C|Net |

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
I'm thinking that MS is delibertly taking a low key approach to 7 publicly, but behind closed doors they are a LOT more optimistic.
There is just SO much GOOD publicity about 7 that MS doesn't really have to do anything much in the way of hype. Everyone else is doing that for them. That's a damned enviable position for ANY company to be it.

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
On my end of things I have had a lot of people telling me to hold off on their systems until Windows 7 drops. So I agree that there is a lot more hype behind the scenes than up front. But at the same time there are most likely most of the people that have a perfectly capable windows vista highend system nothing will change for them but the OS so that market will most likely not see a lot of new computer sales considering that 7 is supposedly capable of utilizing a system better than Vista etc.

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
it's windows 98se all over again.. 98 having a hard hitting splash that kinda scared a few people (bill presenting 98 only for it to crash on him right then and there...several times)... where as 98se everyone couldn't wait for...

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
98se was overrated, it was just 98 with all its updates that you could get on 98 if im not mistaken. But since it came out after, people bought pentium 3s and 4s that were faster and better, it handled it better and better received. ME ran better for me funny as it sounds, but I probably will not argue how bad M.E. was. I'm just one guy who had a good experience with it. I had 98 fully updated in the days that made people's perception of windows update made me laugh (Microsoft spying on you through Windows Update). I just hate people knocking Vista that have no knowledge beyond what newspapers tell them. 7 and Vista in 2 years will probably very little difference, except people will just buy 7 because its newer. XP was given time, and the transisition was harder and slower from 9x codebase to NT, something that was not so proven for home use.

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
on the contrary... i agree 98se was nothing but the updates and fixes rolled into one.. but the consumer idea behind it was completely different.
I preferred ME over 98se any day.. loved it... but my experience with it was simply that if you had a single hitch with ME from the start, just don't bother trying to make it work or it'll nearly kill you. I was a early adopted of vista.. and still love it.... but when win7 arrives... .i'm even more pleasently surprised with it's capabilities and whatnot out the door... i utterly hate windows xp now... i cringe when i see a xp machine come in for work.. it's usually always the same thing wrong....

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
I'll have to agree with you on the XP Thing there Judas i absolutely despise it now. I wonder if Microsoft are holding back the "XP Mode" (which is actually just virtual pc which has been available all along) until closer to release to prove all the XP Fanboys wrong.
The problem is people not willing to format, they get too attached to all the useless crap they've got on their systems like propietary WLAN managing software which apparently makes it easier to get on a network (Does it ****) and all the stupid propoganda the blog writers have been writing about driver scares. This is the blessing and curse of blogging. |

Re: Windows 7 not likely to jolt PC market
majority of the complaints are about backwards capability with their games and so forth..
what i find amusing is they will make the jump usually to newer hardware but bitch about their old software not working on a new OS .....it's like complaining you can't keep the interior from a 1922 ford for your new 2010 mustang....
