Safari 4 Goes to Eleven

Safari 4 is faster than the other browsers, says Apple, but some performance measurement experts take issue with the claim. The speed difference among the major competing browsers is in the neighborhood of 1 second, in any case, so does it really matter? What might be more relevant to users are the features a browser boasts.

Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) More about Apple reports that in the past three days more than 11 million copies of the newly released Safari 4 have been downloaded -- including more than 6 million downloads of Safari for Windows.

Re: Safari 4 Goes to Eleven

most of those downloads on Windows would have been due to Apple's Software "Update" program, which downloads Safari (even if you don't want it) when you've got iTunes installed

Re: Safari 4 Goes to Eleven

I have to say Safari 4 is my favourite along with Stainless on OSX, but as we have said before the "fastest" browser at times is microseconds different from others which is pretty pointless. It all comes down to what the end user feels works best for them on an interface level.

that's why I stick to Opera on my desktop, loving mouse gestures, but I use Safari on the MBA - again for the same reason - thre finger swiping back/forward

Re: Safari 4 Goes to Eleven

Funnily you brought Opera up again. It was always my favourite browser and I mean for years. Lately I have just drifted away from it however and I can't really find a reason for it. I don't think the Macintosh version is quite as good as the Windows version, perhaps thats part of it. Even with the skins it looks "out of place" in my desktop environment.

Re: Safari 4 Goes to Eleven

I am still using Safari as my primary browser on Win7 RC and Vista Ultimate on the AMD system. Quite happy with it and so far as Opera goes it has always been solid I still use it for testing changes with VB code.

Re: Safari 4 Goes to Eleven

I go between Safari 4 for Windows and IE8. Safari does, more often than not, snap the pages in more quickly it seems.

But honestly, when I want to dive into "things Apple", I use Safari because of the web presets it comes with by default. It's a handy way to manage my focus on things and links to sites/resources while browsing. Apple stuff is in Safari, Windows stuff is in IE. Works for me!

True Bro but I find Apple stuff creeping into Win7 like the taskbar and honestly I find Safari a better browser for the new Windows OS.
