AMD to launch 8 series chipsets in January 2010, say Taiwan makers

AMD is scheduled to launch its 8 series chipsets, RD890 to replace the RD790 (790FX) and RS880D, in January 2010, with EVT (engineering verification test) and DVT (design verification test) silicon scheduled for June and July and mass production to begin in November 2009, according to Taiwan-based motherboard makers.

Re: AMD to launch 8 series chipsets in January 2010, say Taiwan makers

This news makes me almost glad I can't afford to build a PC this year though unless AMD finally gets the power saving element (whereby the mobo will power down a GPU card and use the onboard GPU for windows) I would like them to release an entry or medium level chipset that doesn't have onboard graphics.

I've really been tempted by the 790GX but don't see the point in forking out £100 on a motherboard with good onboard graphics when I'm going to be putting in my own GPU and just want it because its paired up with an SB750.
