BenQ to launch LED TVs in 2Q10

BenQ plans to launch LED TVs in the second quarter of 2010 at the earliest as the current prices for LED TVs are still too high, according to Danny Yao, general manager, BenQ Taiwan.

Samsung Electronics has revealed that it has already shipped 400,000 LED TVs since April taking a 90% global market share. LG Electronics (LGE) has also unveiled its LED TVs, which are expected to hit the market in July. LGE said the LED TVs will be available in Taiwan by the end of this year.

Better color and lower energy consumption on the way - this is for LED backlit LCD TVs btw. OLED not there yet...

Indeed. Last I read was that Canon had gotten the patent issue sorted out last year, but...

At least the LED backlighting will aid with color, energy consumption, contrast, reliability/longevity - all the things that make displays better performing and hopefully even less expensive.

But hey, we can always hope for an emissive technology to become widely available for large displays within the next three years or so...
