Apple unleashes Panther & Power Mac G5

Today at the Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco, Apple's annual developer meeting, Apple's finest introduced a flurry of new toys. The two biggest announcements were the unveiling of Apple's new operating system, codenamed "Panther", and the Power Mac G5 which includes the new Power PC 970 chip and a plethora of new upgrades.

Mac OS X 10.3 (Panther)

It was announced that "Panther" will cost $129 this fall. Apple said that there will be more than 100 new features, some of which include iChat AV, Font Book, iDisk, Exposé, fast user switching, PDF viewer, and colored file labels.

Power Mac G5 Desktop

Apple is banking on users to buy the new Power Mac G5 and they did not get dissapointed today. The G5 machines are available in various configurations - 1.6ghz, 1.8ghz and a dual 2ghz model. A brand new case and cooling system were implemented as well as Firewire 800, HyperTransport interconnects, AGP 8X Pro, and PCI-X.
