When it's time to replace that aging, prehistoric hunk of silicon that was once a cutting-edge piece of gaming hardware, many take the "easy route" and order a new game-friendly rig from vendors like Alienware, Dell, Falcon, or VoodooPC. That's fine. It's a legitimate, and especially for the technologically-challenged, safe way to upgrade. However, it's also a path filled with compromises.
Game-specific boutiques can build exactly what you want, but it's going to cost an arm, and nowadays, both legs. Those who elect the more "affordable" route with a mainline system vendor will be limited in how their PC is configured. Still, that may be the only practical route for some folks to follow.
