Another beta bump for Opera 10

Opera is touting the stability and performance enhancements in the third beta, but in casual testing it appeared to be have the slowest JavaScript engine when compared with Chrome and Firefox. Opera notched 3237.4ms in the SunSpider JavaScript test, while Firefox completed the test in 1142.4ms and Chrome was more than twice as fast as that, reaching 508.2ms.

Re: Another beta bump for Opera 10

Well, as they say later in the article, JavaScript speed isn't everything (I am yet to encounter a situation where it will appear as an issue) and Opera's got quite a few tricks up it's sleeve to make it appealing. Downloaded and will be testing (fancy term for using ) it to see if it could become my first choice as the changes aren't just under the hood, but UI has been updated as well.

On a side note, I ran Sun Spider out of curiosity and got about double the times from the article, which is normal as I have an old PC, but interestingly Firefox took a somewhat smaller performance hit: Iron 2.0 (rebranded Chrome) 1081.4ms, Firefox 3.5.2 1860.2ms, Opera 10.0 beta 3 6459.8ms and IE8 8826.4ms, not that far behind Opera.
