Activision sues Viacom over lack of decent Star Trek
Publisher Activision has filed a lawsuit against media giant Viacom for failing to make enough Star Trek, in a lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of the State of California yesterday.
Apparently Activision is upset that since the signing of a 1998 agreement for the rights to videogame development, Viacom has only produced one Star Trek film and has taken two popular television series off-air, leaving just one show with weak ratings in their stead. "Activision cannot successfully develop and sell Star Trek video games without the product exploitation and support promised by Viacom," the suit charges. "A continuing pipeline of movie and television production, and related marketing, is absolutely crucial to the success of video games based on a property such as Star Trek." It continues. "By failing and refusing to continue to exploit and support the Star Trek franchise as it had promised, Viacom has significantly diminished the value of Star Trek licensing rights including the rights received by Activision. Moreover, in so doing, Viacom has breached a fundamental term of its agreement with Activision ... and has caused Activision significant damage." As a result, Activision has terminated the agreement and filed a complaint seeking to recover damages. We suppose that means no Elite Force III. __________________________ Source: GameIndusrty |

Seconded!
What do we get now? - an occasional film, and the guy from Quantum Leap! TOS - The original, but is it the best? TNG - Good and bad, with a reliance on being for some reason unable to leave the holdeck (safety off!) taking over from some excuse for not being able to transport up fro a dangerous planet DS9 - Soap opera on a space station, not really a "proper" Star trek STV - Yoyager - more over-use of holo-plots, and poor use of old/new enemies ENT - A little plodding, and the characters really haven't gelled in 2 series - maybe a female Vulcan was a mistake - the ship looks right though, somewhat "industrial" compared to NCC1701 |

Enterprise has been excellent, the 2nd best series behind TNG. The Borg episode was especially well done.
Apart from being on the whole well written, they have tackled some interesting moral and political issues (as all good ST eps do). Go re-watch Stigma or Cogenitor to see what i mean. Stu |
