Memory kits consisting of two matched memory modules pre-tested to run on dual-channel systems can hardly surprise anyone nowadays. Evidently, bearing this in mind, OCZ Technology, one of the most well-known companies who produces high-quality memory modules, announced a memory kit under a not very short name “OCZ EL DDR PC-3700 Dual Channel Gold 1GB Quad”. As you may see from the name, this kit features four 256MB memory modules for total capacity of 1GB.
OCZ guarantees that the kit will be able to achieve 466MHz frequency with rather aggressive 2-3-3-7 timings. The default voltage for this kit is suggested to be 2.75V, though OCZ lets you to raise it up to 2.9V (+/- 5%) without losing lifetime warranty. The company claims that it was made possible by implementing recently developed Extended Voltage Protection (EVP) technology. Modules were pre-tested on ABIT IC7-G (i875P) mainboard.
OCZ positions this kit as a solution for mainboards based on Intel Canterwood (i875P) and Springdale (i865 series) chipset with four DIMM slots. I just wonder why this kit is better than just two matched 512MB modules produced also by OCZ. Maybe OCZ counts on people, who do not like empty memory slots on their mainboards?
