Nvidia nForce 3 Pro 150 Performance: Asus SK8N
We first looked at the nForce 3 Professional features back at the Opteron launch, and we were eager to get our hands on a board to test performance. Then we did get our hands on the Asus SK8N version 1.02 and were able to overclock the Opteron 242 and 244. Now we are finally able to release our first benchmarks from this board against the Athlon XP 3200+ and P4 3.2GHz. Keep in mind that these benchmarks are run on a revision 1.02 board, and that 1.03 should be the shipping version. We also expect a newer bios and drivers soon that could alter performance.
Windows XP Professional with the latest updates was the test OS of choice. The Radeon 9700 Pro was our video card. For the SK8N we used two 1GB sticks of Corsair ECC Registered DDR333 memory. For the Athlon and P4 box we used Corsair's TwinX XMS3206v1.1 256MB DDR400 sticks. Our Athlon XP boards were the Asus A7N8X Deluxe revision 2.0 and the Shuttle SN45G SFF each based on the nForce 2 Ultra 400 chipset. The Asus P4C800 Deluxe 875P chipset based board was coupled to the 3.2GHz P4. Each board used the latest bios revision and was tweaked for the highest possible stable performance.
