Gigabyte to Produce NVIDIA Based Graphics Cards?
A web-site quoting an unnamed representative from Gigabyte Technology is reporting that the company will be producing graphics cards based on GPUs from NVIDIA in future. The phrase was presumable said during Gigabyte’s official event dedicated to Gigabyte’s nForce2-based mainboards in Moscow.
As we know, Gigabyte has been a long-time partner of ATI Technologies and its switching to NVIDIA graphics processors should be a thunderstruck for the Markham, Ontario-based firm. Nevertheless, an unnamed official from Gigabyte assured a Digital-Daily journalist that the company will continue to utilize graphics processors from ATI Technologies. Surely, core-logic products from the Canadian company too, I would add to this. X-bit labs told you some time ago that there are a number of companies, who sell or produce graphics cards based on chips from both leading developers of graphics processors. The list that time contained MSI, Creative Technology, SUMA, Club 3D and a some other firms. Now we see that Gigabyte follows others and has plans to offer graphics products using GPUs from various vendors. Well, as you witness, the trend continues. I do not know whether Gigabyte will produce or sell powered by NVIDIA graphics cards under its own brand or will stick to OEM orders with such devices. But I would suggest a brand-name for NVIDIA GeForce FX-based cards from Gigabyte: MAYA FX. So, Gigabyte, if you use it, do not forget to send us one of such graphics cards. Funny, but I was the first to report the world about Gigabyte's switching to ATI back in September, 2001, and to tell about Gigabyte's Powered by ATI cards in December, 2001. You can read a report about Gigabyte and NVIDIA presentation in Moscow, Russia over here. ______________________ Source: X-BitLabs |
